Visit to Hooke Court

Jean and Linda drove down to Dorset to visit the Coopers on Friday 27th January. This family travelled for several months in Southern Africa in 2011, visiting several locations, including the Aquinoe Learning Centre, and distributing items which had been donated in the UK.

This was our last bootfair before Christmas so we wanted to sell a reasonable amount of "stuff" to add to funds before our next transfer to Aquinoe. In fact, we made £86 and were content with the total.

First the stats:

There were over 54,000 runners for the 13.1 mile (21 km) course and we finished, hand in hand, on two hours 30 minutes and one second.

Annual Quiz

The Aquinoe annual quiz will be held at Groombridge St Thomas' School at eight o'clock on Saturday 19th November 2011.

In a special fund-raising effort for Aquinoe, Dave Thompson, husband of trustee Jean, is taking part with his daughter Marie in the Great North Run half-marathon between Newcastle-on-Tyne and South Shields on September 18th.

The seventh annual quiz was, once again, held in the hall at Groombridge St Thomas' School. Altogether the evening raised £878, a wonderful total which will be added to the money to be sent to Aquinoe at the beginning of December.

Bootfair raises £100

Now the cooler October mornings are here, we decided to return to the slightly more comfortable surroundings of the Capel Community Centre for an "indoor" bootfair.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed the weather over the last few months, but I certainly have. Getting out the front door to be met with wind and rain isn’t always easy. While it wasn’t always easy it was necessary in order to put in the training miles to ensure I stood a decent chance of completing the 13 miles that was the Great North Run.

Hop Farm Bootfair

Capel Fête

July 2nd dawned fair for Capel fête. A procession of floats made their way to the recreation ground where a marquee had been set up for the Gardeners' Society and stalls had been erected around the field.
