Jean Thompson - Chair
Jean now works on a part-time basis as a teacher for children with visual impairment in East Sussex. In the summer of 2004 she went to Kenya to do some voluntary work at the Aquinoe Learning Centre, and was struck by the needs of the children and the very basic facilities at the school.
She dreamt about setting up a charity to give support to director and staff at the school, but knew that this was not possible on her own. With the help of her sister and a friend, the charity was set up in the months following her return, and registration followed in June 2005.
Tina Panton - Secretary
Tina became involved with ALC after her sister, Jean, travelled to Kenya. The reports she returned with were very moving, and Tina wanted to provide whatever help she could.
Tina’s strengths are in administration, and she has designed ALC’s forms and spreadsheets to record details of all donations and sponsorship. She took early retirement from a firm of consulting actuaries, and moved to Crieff, Perthshire in September 2006. She continues to support ALC from Scotland.
Linda Baverstock - Treasurer
Linda's involvement began after sponsoring Jean to visit Aquinoe and hearing the details of the visit and her wish to start a charity following the visit.
Jean’s commitments left her with little time to deal with this aspect single-handed so Linda volunteered to do some of the groundwork. Once started on this course, her involvement became total and she became committed to providing help to the other Trustees.
Linda has a legal background so was able to find her way through the volumes of paper to enable Charity Status to be achieved. She has now retired from her own business and has more time to devote to the charity
