July 2008 – Balls for Aquinoe
During the year, the Aquinoe Learning Centre received a gift of fifteen balls from the Alive and Kicking charity. The donation comprised five footballs, five netballs and five volleyballs.
Jean was lucky enough to come across Alive and Kicking while donating to a charity working elsewhere in Africa and approached them to see if they might be able to help Aquinoe as well. The balls are actually made in workshops in Nairobi, so providing local employment opportunities.
The balls are now being well-used at the school.
September 2008 – Unexpected Donation
We have received a totally unexpected donation of £300 from another charity – the Just Trust. We thank the trustees for selecting the Aquinoe Learning Centre from the information held on the Charities Commission and Guidestar websites.
September 2008 – Donation of New Goods
The Aquinoe Learning Centre charity is very fortunate to have received more goods from JC, who owns a millinery shop. At the end of a season, she donates some stock to charity, and ALC has been lucky enough to receive two large bags of goods for the second year running. This time they were mostly hats and bags. We sold some at the quiz and intend to sell more at a craft fair soon.
October 2008 – Tina’s Bags
Tina has continued to make some superb bags, mostly from materials donated by an upholstery shop in Scotland. Many of these have been sold to family, friends, and colleagues, but there are plenty more available.
