Josphat Shaduma the director of the school has informed us that Aquinoe Learning Centre is now connected to the mains water supply so all of the school water tanks can now store water. There is also sufficient pressure for all of the toilets in the compound to be flushed.
A big bonus is that the water has been treated so it is safe and staff and pupils will no longer have to boil water before drinking it. It is also hoped that hot water showers may be installed for the boarders in the future.
Funding for piped water to outlying areas around towns in Kenya has been supplied by the World Bank. The major pipes have been installed along the main roads and individual businesses or households in the vicinity have been invited to pay a connection fee so that a spur can be extended to their premises.
