I am still cataloguing the library books. At this point I’m up to 2007 and we have about 3000. The library is pretty well resourced with books covering a wide age range and subject base. The challenge now is space and storage. We need more shelves to house the books so that they can be properly categorised according to age/subject etc. We also could do with some of those book box things on wheels they have in the young children’s sections of libraries and school books corners as the younger children need to be able to look through the books. Some smaller chairs and tables for the younger ones would be good too. I have, as you can see, given this maybe too much thought!

When I catalogue the books I try to have the library open to the children as much as possible. They are really eager to spend time in the library although, like I said, the lack of space and display facilities is a real challenge. I fit as many of them as I possibly can in the library! I had it open until 6.30 pm yesterday which was good . . and really peaceful. I taught two boys to play snap with a set of cards my cousin bought (snap in whispers as it’s a library) and they played it with the same seriousness some people play poker!

I have been making paper spirals with baby class…..basically decorating spirals and then cutting them out to use as decorations for their class. I thought it would be nice to let them work on something creative and it’s good for fine motor skills as well. They were very taken with the spirals and I have some great pictures which I will send you when I get back.
