The Director is very conscious that volunteers need an education about Kenyan education which extends beyond the school compound. Last week I spent some time in Kisumu, which is some 3-5 hours drive south of Kitale. It is African time after all! I was lucky enough to see hippos, impalas, lions, zebras etc & spent a very happy morning boating on Lake Victoria.
Now I’m back at the school with the gorgeous children, all beaming smiles. Since arriving I’ve sat in on every class, much to the amusement of the children & staff, assisting where I can. Although, recently the majority of my time has been spent drafting up proposals, in an effort to boost future funding. Later I shall pick up on Jade’s good work, by continuing to catalogue the library & hope that the new shelving arrives shortly.
On a very positive note, I’m happy to report that a recent surprise visit from School Inspectors has deemed Aquinoe Learning Centre to be the most improved school in the area. This is a real achievement & cause for celebration amongst the staff body as a whole. They work tirelessly to ensure that every child’s school experience is a good one & that they all reach their full potential. Well done!
That’s all folks!
