Dave Thompson, Jean’s husband, who ran in the 2011 Great North Run for Aquinoe with his daughter Marie, has switched targets for 2012 and is now taking part instead in the Great South Run on October 28th.

The event  is described as Europe’s leading 10-mile road race, with 21,000 runners. A fast (for some), flat course takes competitors through Southsea and Portsmouth and passes part of Portsmouth’s naval heritage site, including HMS Victory and the Mary Rose.

Dave says: “Marie and I were both accepted again for the Great North Run on September 16 but Marie has not been able to train fully this year because of a ski injury. We decided to pull out of the GNR but retain options for the 2013 event and I was lucky enough to get a late acceptance for the GSR.

“It will be great running for Aquinoe again – and nostalgic as my stepson Patrick took part in the event a couple of times a few years ago. Now I’m wondering if I can beat his time!”
